Blaylock's has been called by many of our guests as the "Perfect Getaway". Blaylock's offers such features as 13 acres of manicured grounds that include a rare and beautiful rock garden with gently cascading water falls and ponds, rare plants, shrubs and mature trees. This well-tended land gives solace to those who appreciate manicured natural beauty. The mature rhododendrons, lilacs and magnolias give spring and early summer a special color. Seasonal fragrances and colors follow close behind as the year slowly passes. Some people can find more comfort in the raw wild 35 acres of untamed land with old growth trees, wild flowers, a steep mountain side and a free flowing creek that tumbles though the property. For some, a peaceful stroll around the grounds gives a feeling of peace that is seldom found in today's hectic world.

Mr. Jack Roberts was responsible for the design and layout of the Rock Gardens and presided over the construction of the gardens. The Rock walkways are cushioned with moss, the ponds and pools and hidden walkways are skillfully placed throughout the garden. People who appreciate and enjoy beautiful gardens will marvel at the beauty age has given the gardens with the mature wisteria, the rhododendrons and the magnificent magnolia trees as well as the alpine flora and fauna that were planted shortly after the mansion was built. Experts have said that the gardens could bean "Arboretum" not only due to the large amount of mature trees that grow naturally in this area but because Mr. Blaylock had one of every tree that was indigenous to Canada planted on the grounds of the estate. Estate appraisers have said that the gardens are worth considerably more than the mansion itself.

In addition to the natural beauty of the Blaylock property, guests can enjoy the many beautiful artifacts and world-class craftsmenship also gracing the property and building exterior. Our famous sundial, called "The Flight of Time" was designed and crafted by an artisan from Switzerland. It was molded and poured in Cominco's foundry and at that time was the largest bronze piece ever poured in their facility. The sand for the mould was obtained from the beach across the lake because of its quality for fine, intricate work. In order to be aligned with "true north" the leading Cominco survey crew placed the sundial. Other beautiful works include our statuesque Earnie the Elephant, our solid eastern oak entryway, and the home of Squire Blaylock, the luckiest dog in his day. Of course we would be remiss not to mention the opportunity to lounge around our outdoor pool for the day, the epitome of rest and relaxation.

In short, the Blaylock grounds offer an unrivaled setting for a perfect getaway.

Blaylock's puts the experience of sleep at the center of all bedroom design and have developed it to an art form. The windows feature original thick wooden Venetian blinds that softly darken the room, and atop of the custom mattresses you'll find pillows filled with goose down and feathers that are guaranteed to be 100% free of allergens. Blaylock sheets are made of Cambric cotton, which is known for it's tight weave of 250 threads per inch. Each bed also comes with a 3 inch thick down feather bed that is placed on top of the mattress, an idea borrowed from the Europeans. You are kept warm by a puffy 600-fill duvet also made of allergen free goose down. Down's self regulatory thermostat is what makes it the best natural ingredient on the earth for bedding, whether it's inside a duvet, a feather bed or a pillow. Down adjusts to your metabolism and promotes a baby like sleep. Unlike heavy wool blankets, down bedding also has unparalleled "loft" power, that soft billowy quality that makes you feel like you're floating. At Blaylock's you'll sleep as peacefully as you have anywhere else, perhaps even better.

Our well appointed rooms were the guest rooms at the Blaylock mansion when such celebrities as Prince George and Prince Edward and many of the industrial leaders of the world during the 30's and 40's were entertained.

In the morning, a deliciously full breakfast, made from the best ingredients, is waiting in the breakfast room: Juice squeezed from organic fruits, platters of fresh fruits, organic granola or hot cereal, organic Arabic coffee, and then a mouth watering main course. If guests wish to eat in private, there are trays for them to bring their breakfast up to their room, or on a beautiful day just go outside and sit at one of the tables scattered around the property.

For one who loves spectacular scenery, it's hard to decide from our sunroom which way to look. One window offers the expansive front lawn, those beautiful large trees and lake competing with the other window with it's large Cedar, the rock gardens and all the glorious colors. In the evening, a relaxing place to snuggle down with a book in front of the limestone fireplace with its hand carved white oak mantle. What a place in the morning: Three walls of solid windows with unfettered light. The floor of this room has multi shades of brown clay tiles that were imported from Scotland. Couple that with the white oak from the eastern USA, the hand made steel window frames from England and the original wooden Venetian blinds and one can see the reason why this room is so special. We'll let you discover the views.

The living room is another relaxing environment, with a limestone fireplace that has a carved white oak surround and makes for a very cozy atmosphere to read one of the interesting books in the library that consists of everything from travel to the classics.

Our beautiful dining room includes a custom hand-made maple and cherry wood dining table with carved legs and elaborate carved trim around the whole table. The set has a matching buffet a linen cabinet and side table. The dining room table comfortably sits 12 people. To complete the room there is an original antique chandelier and sconces. Some people like to retire to the Lakewood Gallery, an archival room beside the dining room, which offers a piano for those who love to play and for those who like to listen.

For those who love playing billiards or snooker, there is the serious challenge of shooting pool on our full sized, 6'x12' slate-bed table while enjoying an ice-cold mug of ale. This table will make you reach deep inside to recall the abilities of a younger day. We also have a a big-screen television room for those who want to relax and watch a movie or sporting event. If you need to do a little work while you're here, we also provide internet, fax, and photocopying services.
